Thanks to everyone who showed up at the Crevasse-Moraine Master Plan Meeting on Oct 25. You're not done yet. ;)
1. Remember to submit your input form by Nov 5. That's a week from now. That's for the MSB-sponsored plan that included Crevasse-Moraine and Greenbelt Central (where the new trails are).
2. Next up is the Palmer meeting for the boroughwide Master Trails Plan sponsored by the Mat-Su Trails and Parks Foundation (foundation provided us the funds to finish the sign program). Friday, Nov 2, 6:30pm , Palmer High School.
This meeting is important for the big picture of trails in the valley - what do you like, connectivity, etc. Connectivity between Palmer and Wasilla and between Matanuska Greenbelt and Palmer (both north and south ends), Palmer Hay Flats, and some northern connectors have come up at earlier meetings. Connectivity within the MGT might also be something to discuss. They'll display a conceptual model of Trails Toolbag / toolbox with the steps in developing a new trail - from initially identifying a trail, reserving trail routes, funding and improving trails, and supporting ongoing trail use. So please come provide your input.
(has dates and times for the remaining meetings at Glacier View, Sutton, and Y near Talkeetna.
3. Matanuska Greenbelt Trails Association meeting. Nov 8. 5:30pm, Matanuska Experiment Farm, Kerttula Hall (most likely upstairs lab where we usually meet, but a possibility of a downstairs location - check signs on way in the front door). This will be our first meeting for this winter - and after all these other plan meetings have started. This is the collaborative group of trail enthusiasts and land managers who have brought you the maps and signs. We need to catch up with what's happening within the various land managers' organizations as well as the planning processes.
This was deliberately setup after round 1 of the CMT plan and the boroughwide master plan meetings and before round 2 (see #4 for next CMT meeting; boroughwide master plan community meetings are more likely to occur in spring.
The two processes already in action - the CMT master plan and the boroughwide master trails plan - affect the MGT, but neither of them addresses the MGT as a whole. We'd like to discuss what we've done so far, where we'd like to go, and how we mesh with these other plans.
4. Crevasse-Moraine Master Plan. Nov 14, 6:30pm, MSB Animal Care Facility Classroom. This will be a followup to the first meeting and the input forms that you've all been sending in. I believe they will have alternatives presented. This is really important to attend this meeting also. I know the number of participants and relative cohesiveness of the group impressed some people during round 1.
See you Friday.
