Matanuska Greenbelt Trails Association was honored to receive the Community Service Award by the Mat-Su Convention and Visitors Bureau on November 18, 2011. Thank you! This award is only occasionally given to acknowledge special contributions by groups or individuals to better the community. This award is in recognition of the efforts of the land managers and the many volunteers that make the Matanuska Greenbelt Trails Association a successful model of community cooperation and development.
To date, the project has installed or used
88 single posts (68 8x8 and 19 6x8 plus one state park bollard was usable in place) with
239 metal directional signs
12 double posts (either 6x8 posts bolted together or state parks bollards) with
13 locational maps (10.5in x 11.8in) located at some key intersections throughout the system (one post has a map on each face).
Trailhead structures and signs are still being worked on but there's two at CMT and Farm Trailheads. State Parks has 3 structures up (waiting for the signs/posters), and the College is using some metal map signs until we can get the remaining structures built.
We have 51 Buy a Post donations and were awarded a grant by the new Mat-Su Trails and Parks Foundation.
I think we ran out of obvious places to put posts (finally), and we've got donors on essentially all the 8x8 posts on the three main properties. (some name plates are still being installed)
Thanks, everyone for all the work you've put in over the past three years (Dec 3 is our 3rd anniversary).
